Rolex Explorer Original Dial Overhaul August 2026 1967, 1016

Lovely vintage example of an early Rolex Explorer ref. 1016. This watch has a 1.7 million serial number dating it to right around 1967 and features the original black matte Mark 1 dial (often called “frog foot” because of the shape of the Rolex crown being shorter/wider).

I just had this watch fully overhauled by a professional watchmaker in NYC. It is running in line with a new Rolex (chronometer standard) at +0.8 sec/day at my last reading (see screenshot in listing). This service comes with a 1 year warranty from the watchmaker should you happen to be local. Also tested to confirm it is resealed and properly waterproof.

Comes with original box and two straps (one NATO and one rubber as shown on the photos). Also, the watch will come with the Authentication Card from when I originally purchased it (also shown in photos).

Primary flaw is that the lume portion of the hands is missing, seemingly having been removed at some point.
